In a distressing incident, a gym trainer in Punjab died by suicide as gyms were closed amid the Covid lockdown and.
The incident happened in the Ludhiana district of the state. Varinder Kohli, a resident of the Shivpuri region in the district was troubled by the closure of the gym due to lockdown. The 38-year-old gym trainer had swallowed sulfur. He was taken to the hospital where after struggling for 4 days he succumbed.
The deceased’s wife Poonam revealed that his gym was closed because of lockdown, after which their financial condition was deteriorating. They were unable to meet daily expenses due to which Varinder was upset.

About four days ago when Varinder went home from work, his health was bad. After the family witnessed foam coming out of his mouth, he was immediately taken to the hospital. After examination, it was found that Varinder had ingested a poisonous substance.
The government has issued the order to close shopping malls and gyms amid increasing cases of coronavirus infection in the state. Poonam, the wife of deceased has blamed the government for her husband’s death.
The incident has highlighted, how the state government has failed to aid those whose livelihoods are disrupted due to lockdown. It is necessary to break the chain of increasing coronavirus cases and deaths. However, people are still losing their lives, if not to corona then by corona imposed lockdown.
