Two-third of patients in India who have been suffering health issues not relating to Coronavirus during the pandemic have encountered challenges with their routine checkups and access to hospitals revealed a new study by ICMR. The findings of the study said that around two-thirds of the participants have faced challenges with their routine checkups accounting for up to 69%, nearly 67% couldn’t get daycare procedures and 61 per cent faced hurdles reaching the hospital.
Half of the people who took part in the ICMR survey reported facing trouble in getting doctors appointments(59%), about 56% could not get emergency treatment, 47% faced trouble at the pharmacy and 46% suffered delays in receiving healthcare.

In the survey, it was revealed that 37 per cent of the participants thought they could not get medical access due to the social restrictions and lockdowns, 29% indicated finance arrangement as a constraint to visiting hospitals and 16 per cent avoid hospitals visiting hospitals fearing Coronavirus
Further, the survey findings showed that people with chronic non-communicable diseases dealt with several challenges in accessing healthcare during the pandemic. The survey also highlights the issues that people faced regarding access to healthcare because of the social restrictions and lockdown.

A complete lockdown was imposed in 2020 March, during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, the lockdown has been imposed in the country for over a year now, with several rules and relaxations being ordered with time as the virus cases rise.
