Partying and dancing on New Year's eve, people from all around the world bid farewell to 2021 on Friday and welcomed the year 2022 at the stroke of midnight. And, Google joined in on the celebrations.

In an extension to its New Year's eve doodle, Google's animated 2021 party popper burst and marked the beginning of the new year. As soon as the clock struck midnight, the purple candy split in half, revealing the '2022' in pink shades.

The candy pops to reveal bright pink 2022 balloons floating high in the animated doodle, while 'G' wears a party hat in line with the festive spirit. “And just like that, 2022 is here—Happy New Year’s Day!” the internet giant announced the year's first doodle on its blog, which has a global reach.

Furthermore, if you click on the doodle, you will be redirected to the 'Happy New Year 2022 in India,' page. The page displays the results of many New Year's greetings and GIFs, as well as events and articles relevant to the special day.

The page includes a great deal of information, from history to significance, if the user wants to skim through it and learn more about why January 1 is celebrated as New Year's Day.

The tech giant, which has a reputation of celebrating festivities with doodles on its homepage, decided with a basic design this year to greet the new year, echoing its older cartoons with only confetti and party hats.

Meanwhile, India welcomed the New Year amid the fear of a new wave of Covid 19 pandemic. Following the imposition of night curfews due to the threat of new Covid variant Omicron, the streets of various cities and towns took on a deserted look after 10 p.m.

Due to the Omicron, which is rallying infections and increasing hospitalizations in a vast number of countries, nations around the world are greeting 2022 with low-key celebrations.
