Hardeep Singh Nijjar's murder case is far from over and India-Canada continue to remain at loggerheads over this. A massive development took place when Canadian authorities arrested three Indians on suspicion of killing a Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar on its soil. Hardeep Nijjar, a Canadian citizen, was most wanted in India over terror charges. Nijjar was shot dead outside a gurdwara in Surrey on June 18, 2023. While Canadian PM Justin Trudeau accused agents of New Delhi (Government of India) of carrying out the assassination, India rejected the claims as absurd and also asked the Canadian authorities to table the proof so that they can look into it. Thereafter, India and Canada's diplomatic relationship nosedived. Finally, after months of investigation, the Canadian authorities arrested three Indians - Karan Brar, 22, Kamalpreet Singh, 22, and Karanpreet Singh, 28 as suspects in Nijjar's murder. Now, Canadian media has made multiple claims regarding Karan Brar who went to Canada on study permit.
Who is Karan Brar?
As per Canadian media, Karan Brar in an old social media post revealed that he entered Canada on a 'study permit' which only took him days to obtain. The accused, Karan Brar, in a video posted online in 2019, said he applied for a student visa through EthicWorks Immigration Services in Bathinda, Punjab. Brar said he received his study visa days later.
Notably, the Canadian media quoted the promotional video that was shared by the immigration company featuring Karan Brar. As per reports, Karan Brar hails from Kotkapura, a city north of Bathinda. His video was uploaded on EthicWorks' Facebook page. "Congratulations Karan Brar for the Canada study visa," the caption below the video read adding "One more happy client from Kotkapura." According to another Facebook page purportedly owned by Karan Brar, he moved to Edmonton on May 4, 2020, after starting his studies at Bow Valley College in Calgary on April 30, 2020.
Notably, Karan Brar's Study Visa permit revelations may force Canadian authorities to impose stricter immigration rules, especially for those coming from India.
Notably, the trio, dressed in orange jumpsuits, appeared before court recently. During their appearance, pro-Khalistani protesters chanted slogans and held placards, outside the Surrey provincial court, blaming India's government for the killing. The three men were taken into custody in Edmonton last week on Friday and are accused of first-degree murder and murderous conspiracy in connection with the June 2023 shooting of Nijjar, which severely damaged Canada's relations with India.
It is pertinent to mention here that Hardeep Singh Nijjar was designated a terrorist by India's National Investigation Agency in 2020. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) of Surrey, RCMP had said that on the morning of May 3, IHIT investigators, with the assistance of members from the British Columbia and Alberta RCMP and the Edmonton Police Service, arrested the three men for the June 2023 killing of Nijjar.
Notably, it was also reported that the three men were in contact with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. However, Canadian authorities are still investigating and think that more big names will come in Hardeep Nijjar's murder case.
