In Kaithal, Haryana, a young man brutally beat his own pet pitbull dog to death with a shovel. The accused first made the dog unconscious and dangled him be a rope into a pit following which he hit caved the dog’s head in by repeatedly hitting it with shovel. When its video surfaced, the police registered a case against the man following a complaint by a woman running an NGO that helps animals.

 

Mohali resident Meenakshi Malik, who runs an NGO, told in her complaint to the Guhla police station that a young man named Amit Sharma runs a dance academy near Hansi Butana canal of Guhla area near Samana. Besides this, he also runs an illegal animal shelter.

 

Meenakshi told that a member of her NGO had informed that Amit Sharma had beaten a dog of Pitbull breed to death in the shelter. A video of the accused killing the dog has also surfaced. In this, the accused was seen viciously beating the pitbull with a shovel. The complainant told that this pitbull dog was a pet of the accused. One day the accused had brought that dog to his ‘shelter’. Then that pitbull dog bit and injured some dogs already living in the ‘shelter’ which made him very angry.

 

Meenakshi told in the complaint that the accused first got angry and knocked the pitbull unconscious. After this, he was tied with a rope and hit on his head with a shovel while being hung. Several consecutive blows were given to its head, due to which the dog died. This incident happened in December. A local person made a video of it and sent it to the NGO.

 

The complainant demanded action against the accused. Along with this, she requested that the animals living at the house of the accused be sent a licensed shelter. Guhla police station's investigating officer ASI Baljeet Singh said that a case has been registered against the accused Amit under the Animal Act. The accused is currently absconding.
