Hearing on the bail of Akali Dal leader and former minister Bikram Majithia will be held today in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. A drug case has been registered against Majithia and he is currently lodged in Patiala jail. So far, two judges have abstained from hearing him due to personal reasons.
The matter has now been forwarded to a new bench by the Chief Justice. During the previous Congress government, a case was registered against him for having links with international drug smugglers. After which he got relief from the Supreme Court only till he contested the elections.
A few months back, he had gone to the Supreme Court to get the drugs case dismissed. The Supreme Court then asked him to move to the High Court. The Chief Justice of the High Court constituted a bench of Justice AG Masih and Justice Sandeep Moudgil, of these, Justice Masih refused to hear.
