On Saturday, the Meteorological Department of India issued a heatwave alert in different parts of Punjab. Earlier the IMD stated that heatwave will prevail till 19th May, but now there are chances that state will not get relief from the scorching heat for next 4-5 days. The IMD and heatwave have also issued an orange alert as temperature is likely to exceed 47 degrees Celsius.
On Thursday, a warning was issued by IMD stating that Punjab’s mercury will touch 45 degrees but now the temperature is likely to increase more. There are chances that the temperature during weekend might touch 47 or 50 degrees Celsius. As per data released by IMD, Samrala in Ludhiana recorded the highest temperature in Punjab i.e. 46.3 degrees. The temperature recorded in Jalandhar was 45 degrees while in Pathankot it was 45.1 degree Celsius.
According to certain European weather agencies, India will witness the hottest summer in 2024. This year will be touching the highest temperature in the last 2,000 years. This temperature change is due to El Nino effect.
In effect of this, The Punjab Education Department has announced summer breaks in school from 1st June 2024 to 30th June 2024. The Education Minister, Punjab released strict orders that if any school is found violating it will face strict actions.
