Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT debut Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar was released on May 1 to mixed reviews by fans. The film-maker is known for his magical film-making skills, which includes lavish sets and epic storytelling. As such, fans were expecting Heeramandi to blow them away, displaying his prowess on a much larger scale.
Netflix’s Heeramandi: A Diamond Bazaar delves into raw emotions, exploring themes of freedom, love, brothels, and jealousy. Following the life of tawaifs during the British Raj, it stars Sonakshi Sinha, Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal along with Fardeen Khan, Shekhar Suman and Adhyayan Suman.
However, twitter is divided over the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s OTT debut. While some fans praised the Bhansali’s artistry and performances of the actors, others lamented the shows pacing, calling it a ‘snooze-fest.’ One user wrote, “#Heeramandi on Netflix is a must-watch! Sanjay Leela Bhansali's lavish series is a visual treat, brimming with intrigue and drama.”
Another user wrote, “watched EP1 and.... and can assure you that the camerawork and artistique detailing in each frame have never been seen before in bollywood. Bole to #Heeramandi Is lob turu lob!!! byy god!!”
Some users called it a snoozefest, with one saying ““#Heeramandi started watching this found extremely slow and disappointing.” One user took a dig at the lighting saying, “Sanjay Leela Bhansali ji, #Heeramandi ke raat ke scenes thode aur dark shoot kar lete, art thoda or nikhar kar aa jata.
