The Punjab and Haryana High Court has
issued an order granting interim relief from arrest to former Congress minister Sangat Singh Gilzian in the matter associated with forest affairs.
The court has put the stay on his arrest till July 25th. The court
has ordered the state government to file a status report on the matter. Apart
from this, the court has also asked about the progress of the State’s Vigilance Bureau in the case. The interim relief to Gilzian is a big
blow to the Punjab government, which is constantly putting efforts to establish
its image as the defender of the state’s welfare against corruption.
Case by the Vigilance Department:
The state’s Vigilance Bureau has
registered a case in Mohali against the scam in the forest affairs during the Congress
government. Former Congress minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot has been
arrested in the matter and Gilzian is next in line in the same case. As soon as
the case was registered Gilzian went underground and filed the petition seeking
relief in the matter from the High Court.
Daljit Gilzian, Minister’s nephew under
Vigilance’s Custody:
In the same case nephew of former
minister Gilzian was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau from Chandigarh.
Daljit is under Vigilance's remand. The Vigilance has claimed that
Daljit himself looked into the entire proceedings of his Uncle’s works. From
the transfer of officers to the cutting up of trees from the government’s order
in the state, many of such matters had Daljit’s direct involvement.
