After Telangana and Tamil Nadu, Karnataka's hijab controversy was the most searched in UP in a Google search on Wednesday morning, a day before polling. Malala Yousuf has also jumped into the discussion.
Taking to Twitter, Malala talked about the hijab controversy raging in India's state Karnataka where Muslim students wearing the hijab are being barred from entering college premises.
Malala said, "Refusing to let girls go to school in their hijabs is horrifying."
“College is forcing us to choose between studies and the hijab. Refusing to let girls go to school in their hijabs is horrifying. Objectification of women persists - for wearing less or more. Indian leaders must stop the marginalisation of Muslim women," Malala said.
After Malala, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi also made a remark on it.
"Whether it is a bikini, a ghoonghat, a pair of jeans or a hijab, it is a woman’s right to decide what she wants to wear. This right is GUARANTEED by the Indian constitution. Stop harassing women," wrote Priyanka Gandhi on Twitter.
The Hijab controversy, which has been going on for almost a week, has completely entered the politics of Uttar Pradesh. Muslim women in Karnataka's Shimoga are saying that we are burnt alive overnight in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh, Hijab is an excuse.
This hijab incident is gaining ground in Uttar Pradesh. Muslim leaders are using it to their advantage. AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi has also fielded his candidate in the Uttar Pradesh elections. He said that you cannot tell anyone what to eat and what to wear. On the other hand, some leaders are refraining to speak on this matter as it may harm their image during elections.
