In a proud moment for India, Vinesh Phogat on Tuesday became the first Indian woman wrestler to qualify for the Olympics final event. Vinesh Phogat defeated Yusneylys Guzman by 5-0 in a one-sided semifinal to become the first ever Indian woman wrestler to qualify for an Olympic final. During period 1, Vinesh Phogat was given a warning for passivity and another one of those would have been put on a 30-second shot clock (during which she must score or her opponent gets a point). Vinesh leads 1-0. Thereafter, there was no stopping for Phogat as put Yusneylys Guzman in her grip and eventually got four points to take a 5-0 lead. Vinesh will now take on either Otgonjargal Dolgorjav or Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the final on the 7th of August.
With this, Vinesh Phogat has guaranteed India another medal at the Paris Olympics. Till now, India has won only three bronze medals at Paris Olympics 2024 with Manu Bhaker winning 2 bronze in shooting & Sarabjot Singh winning bronze along with Bhaker.
