Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli attended Hockey India's Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lucknow on Sunday. Nitin Kohli attended the AGM meeting after the Indian Hockey Team displayed an outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics 2024 winning a historic bronze just like the Tokyo Olympics. 10 out of 16 players of the Indian Hockey Team who were part of the Paris Olympics 2024 squad are from Punjab. Notably, multiple outcomes from the meeting came including the announcement of the Hockey India League restarting again this year. For the first time, the women's team will also participate in the tournament.
Notably, Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli revealed that he had an interaction with UP CM Yogi Adityanath for the betterment of hockey. Nitin Kohli was also honoured at the AGM meeting by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. He further informed that what he liked most about UP CM Yogi Adityanath when he said that he feels proud of every hockey players whichever state they belong to.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also interacted with players as well as the heads of Hockey organizations during the meeting. UP CM took to his X handle and shared multiple pictures of the meeting assuring the government's full support to Hockey. UP CM wrote, "(Translated Version) Today I got the opportunity to interact with all the respected players, members and officials of Hockey @TheHockeyIndia who have come to participate in the 14th Hockey India Congress to be held in the capital Lucknow.I assure you all that the Uttar Pradesh government will provide full cooperation at every level. Hearty welcome and greetings to all of you in Uttar Pradesh, the land of Major Dhyan Chand!"
Notably, Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli in an earlier interview with True Scoop News revealed that planning to conduct the Punjab Hockey League is in the works. "Hockey Punjab is under the leadership of Hockey India. Hockey India has started giving funding to many states. Currently, we are trying to bring the league back to Punjab. We are planning to organise Punjab Hockey League. Next month we are also organising Nationals for juniors. 800 youths from all over India will come and live here. On the grassroots level, there is round glass, they are working efficiently for Punjab Hockey. Also, we are trying to privatise it. We managed to get private sponsorship for the team. That will be an excellent trial as far as Punjab Hockey is concerned. So, every player will be sponsored by an individual company, " Hockey Punjab President Nitin Kohli had said.
