The Punjab government has declared a holiday on 20th December in four districts of the state. According to the official notification, there will be a local holiday for government offices, boards, corporations, and educational institutions in these districts.
This holiday is declared due to the upcoming by-elections in four legislative constituencies in Punjab. The districts that will observe the holiday include Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Barnala.
The notification also specifies that any government official or employee who is a registered voter in Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, Gidderbaha, or Barnala constituencies but works in a government office or educational institution in a different district of Punjab can take special leave to vote by presenting their voter card. This leave will not be deducted from the employee’s leave balance.
