Coronavirus has infected innumerable people and has caused millions of fatalities all over the world since 2020. Once again coronavirus has started disturbing nations with its second wave. India today, on April 16 has reported more than 2.17 lakh fresh corona cases and more than 1000 deaths.
The hospitals are falling short of beds, vaccines, and other necessary health facilities. At this time, many people who are infected with the virus but have mild symptoms are under home quarantine. People are isolating themselves in their homes until they test negative for the infection.
Rules to follow during home isolation
The patient should be home quarantined only when having mild symptoms. In severe health conditions, the patient should be hospitalized and treated under the presence of a doctor.
During home quarantine, the patient should be isolated in the room. The room has to be well ventilated and someone must be always there to take of the patient. The washroom must be separate from the entire family. Anything the patient uses must not be used by other members of the family.

Do’s and Don’ts
The windows of the room should remain open for ventilation. The patient should be wearing a three-layered mask and it should be changed every 6-7 hours. Avoid touching the surface which is touched most, and utensils, sheets, towels used by the patient should be kept separately.
The fever and oxygen level of the person isolated should be checked twice a day. The body temperature should not exceed 100 F, and if the oxygen level is observed decreasing, the patient should be taken to the hospital immediately.
The patient should avoid consumption of alcohol, smoking, or any other drug. Following the advice of a doctor and taking medicine should be on the ‘must-do' list.
Diet for home quarantined patient
The patients should
consume fresh and plain food. The diet must be rich in protein. Spices like
ginger, garlic, and turmeric should be used. Drink 7-9 glasses of water a day.
Non-vegetarians should eat skinless chicken, fish, and egg whites. Corona
patients can have low-fat milk and yogurt, and the food should be cooked in low
cholesterol oil.
