A major fire broke out in a house near Mata Gujri Park at GTB Nagar, in the wee hours today, causing severe damage at the first floor. The intensity of the blast was so high that the walls of adjoining houses developed cracks.
As per the information, the owner of the house Vijay Kumar, around 6 am, saw smoke coming out of his kitchen. He then immediately with his family went on his terrace and raised an alarm for the help.
He then subsequently jumped on the terrace of his adjoining house, and rescued his family. He said, “Minutes after I rescued myself and my family, I saw the sparking of wires and in the meantime, the gas cylinder exploded and within seconds the whole house caught fire damaging the walls, ceilings and floors”.
He said the sound of the blast was so intense that the entire locality was awakened. "Though the fire brigade team reached the spot on time, it cannot begin the its operation as the electricity board failed to disconnect the power supply in the area on time", he said.
Reportedly, it took more than two hours to the fire extinguishers to take control over the fire. As per owner, he suffered huge losses as the entire furniture was gutted in fire and the two-store-yard building was damaged badly.
