Coronavirus pandemic has brought certain changes in our lives as education plans, weddings plans had to take a back seat amidst the infection-induced lockdown.

When the first wave of the Covid-19 hit India, things changed vividly and those who had plans of getting married had to postpone it for quite some time. However, in the beginning of 2021, it seemed like things had started to fall back on track a second disastrous wave of the infection had hit.

To curb the second wave of the infection, the authorities had to take stern action, which included a restriction on gathering limit, travel ban, and what not. Meanwhile, those who already postponed their wedding to 2021 hadn’t foreseen that their joyous moments would again be tangy for them.

Corona Weddings have attracted attention from many as a few reports emerged that bride and groom got married wearing a PPE kit, low-key marriages at home, marriages in adherence to the Covid-19 behavior, and much more. Perhaps in all events, one thing was common that it’s a wedding but ‘whose’ it made all the difference.

Since the pandemic has arrived in India, several political leaders and celebrities became part of the wedding functions in which most of them were seen flouting the Covid-19 norms.

In the latest development, an FIR was lodged against the newly wedded couple Sughanda Mishra and Sanket Bhosale who tied the knot on April 26. 9 days after their marriage, police took action against them after their wedding video did rounds on the internet.

It may be noted here that at the time of comedian and playback singer Sughanda Mishra’s wedding the government has restricted the gathering for weddings at just 20. Though, Sughanda-Bhosale’s wedding was quite low-key it grabbed the attention of everybody. This time Kapurthala Police realized that nearly 100 people gathered for the comedian’s marriage in which Covid-19 norms were flouted hence, FIR lodged against the couple and the hotel owner who organized the event.

On the flip side, two days before Sughanda’s marriage, another video from the Kapurthala district of Punjab emerged in which an elected representative of Phagwara was seen tossing the Covid-19 norms in the wedding.

In the video, Congress MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal could be seen dancing and enjoying a wedding function of the city’s former councilor Davinder Sapra’s daughter. From the video, it was also assumed that there were more people at the party than allowed. Apart from this, no one in the video was seen wearing a mask or practicing social distancing.

Pertinently, both the comedian’s and the politicians’ wedding took place in the same week that too in the vicinity of Kapurthala, however, local police action has differed for both sides. As of now, no FIR has been registered against MLA Dhaliwal.
