Recently, a team from Avishkar Hyperloop, in collaboration with TuTr Hyperloop, is leading a revolutionary transportation technology named Hyperloop project. Both of these teams are based at IIT Madras that is located near Chennai. These teams are known for their engineering innovation.
IIT Madras has successfully unveiled Hyperloop test track. This track is 410-meter long. This revolutionary project is backed by the Indian Railways.
It aims for a Mumbai to Pune route and promises 25-minute travel times at speeds over 1,000 kmph. Tickets are expected to cost between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500. Usually, it takes a total of 3 hours to travel from Pune to Mumbai but this all-new invention named Hyperloop promises to make it a 25-minute route for the passengers. The system is going to operate at a regular speed of 360 km/h, with a maximum of 1,100 km/h.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has praised the achievement and also commended the cooperation between Indian Railways, TuTr and the Avishkar Hyperloop team from IIT Madras.
What is Hyperloop?
Hyperloop is a high-speed transportation system. In this transportation system, pressurized pods travel through low-pressure vacuum tubes. It was first conceptualised by Elon Musk in 2012. These pods offer energy-efficient, non-stop travel for 24 to 28 passengers as they are capable of speeds up to 1,100 kmph.
76 students from IIT Madras are part of the Avishkar Hyperloop team. They all are collaborating with TuTr to develop Hyperloop technology. The project is divided into two stages including a 100-kilometer expansion for practical uses and an initial 11.5-kilometer test track to show system dependability.
The Mumbai-Pune route has been selected for India’s first full-scale Hyperloop system. This ambitious project has the aim to reduce travel time between the two cities to just 25 minutes. This would make it faster than air travel. The ticket prices are expected to be affordable as it would range between Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,500, making it an efficient alternative to flights.
