In another case of public service brutality that has emerged from the local elections held in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, an Administrative Service (IAS) officer was seen hounding a TV reporter in public and cruelly beating him.
The TV journalist was beaten by Divyanshu Patel, the Chief Development Officer or CDO of Unnao because he filmed the officer who allegedly helped to kidnap local council members to stop them from voting.
No comment has been made by the officer yet.
The assault video has been spread widely on social media, triggering widespread criticism.
"We just had a word with all the journalists. We have got a written complaint from the journalist who was attacked. I can assure you that fair action will be taken in the case," Unnao District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar told reporters.
The attack happened on a day when clashes and violence were reported in 17 Uttar Pradesh districts during the polling to elect block panchayat chiefs. BJP claimed a historic victory in the polls while opposition parties including former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party have accused of manipulation in voting.
Several complaints were made from parts of the state of the block council members who were supposed to vote in the elections were stopped from casting their votes.

In a press conference, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said, "In the elections for Block Panchayat Chiefs, the BJP is winning more than 635 seats with its allies and supporters. This number will increase further after the final results are out.”

In another such video relating to violence, a senior police officer in the Etawah district complained to his senior accusing violence saying that he was slapped by BJP supporters.
