Indian Institute of Technology-Kanpur will soon establish an engineering department of sustainable energy to contribute to the nation's growing clean and renewable energy sector.
IIT-Kanpur Director Prof Abhay Karandikar announced that the Board of Governors has approved to set up the department.
Beginning an academic department in this field is a very important initiative to serve the educational and technology needs of the country said BoG Chair Dr K
Radhakrishnan, adding that it will help the country to develop in the above-mentioned area.
Prof Karandikar said that the initiative comes at an opportune time when the government has committed to source at least 40 per cent of its energy requirement from clean and renewable energy sources by 2030, as pledged in the Paris Agreement.
