International Centre for Clean Water (ICCW) at IIT Madras to work together with Japanese firm DG TAKANO to get new water technologies in India to solve the water problem in the country. ICCW and the Japanese firm will launch new projects and together will conduct joint R&D to provide safe drinking water.
The projects will focus on the implementation of proven technology, field testing of emergent technology, developing new technology, educational training and internship programmes.
ICCW will empower technical capabilities including analysis of groundwater, clean water, treated water, assessment of water security, selection and development of the most appropriate technology and its implementation, local technical training and maintenance support.
From conducting research, testing and validation of several water technology solutions of the Japanese firm. DG Takano's technology 'Bubble90' a water-saving nozzle will be used in India.
Bubble90 technology is said to save 90% water when attached to a faucet.
Speaking about this collaboration, T. Pradeep, professor, IIT Madras, and professor-in-charge, ICCW, said, “Conserving water efficiently needs technological partnerships between nations. This is a timely beginning.”
The Japanese company has agreed to deliver its expertise on advancing sustainable technologies. DG Takano will assist ICCW to work with other Japanese firms in developing innovative products and technologies. It will also hire interns from IIT Madras. The two will jointly develop new products and services that relate to the projects.

Elaborating on the areas of collaboration, Amuro Osman, head of global sales and marketing, DG TAKANO, said, “The projects we undertake will be in the fields of clean water, water treatment, water security and stewardship covering raw water and wastewater.”
MOU has been signed between the two to cooperate on projects that can tackle water scarcity in India and provide clean and safe drinking water.
