The vaccination pace in India has risen tremendously as the country prepares for a possible Covid-19 third wave. Today, the country set a new record by administering over 2 crore vaccine
shots in just 9 hours, the biggest number ever and smashing all previous single-day vaccination records.
The major development comes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 71st birthday.
As of 5:09 p.m. on September 17, India had administered over 2.03 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines, breaking the previous record of 1.41 crore doses administered in a single day set on August
31.
India has now reached the milestone of administering more than 1 crore vaccination doses in a single day for the fourth time, the first being on August 27. India had distributed about 79 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines as of Friday evening.
“India breaks another record! 1 Crore vaccine doses administered in less than 6 hours,” tweeted the official account of MyGovIndia.

Meanwhile, The Union Health Ministry on Thursday urged people to follow Covid guidelines to prevent the spread of Coronavirus as the festive season approaches.
Festivals should also be celebrated in a simple manner, according to experts, as crowding might lead to an increase in Coronavirus infections. All of India's progress against the Covid-19
pandemic will be overturned if this happens.
On Friday, India reported over 30,000 new Coronavirus cases for the second day in a row. According to data, 34,403 new Covid-19 cases were reported in India in the last 24 hours, bringing
the total number of Covid-19 cases to 33.38 million, while the number of active cases fell below 3.4 lakh. India's Covid-19 death toll has risen to 444,248 with 320 deaths in the last 24 hours.
