After having won the Test match series and T20 series, India wins the ODI series as well in an exciting final match. It was a nailbiting finish with England giving a tough competition to India, but India emerged out to be a better side on the day.
After winning the toss, England invited India to bat on a good pitch. India had a great start with the bat again with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan giving India another 100 run opening stand. After that four wickets fell quite quickly, India looked to be in trouble as Virat and KL going out quickly. Then Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya batted superbly and got India to a good position where at one time 350 was looking possible. But after the fall of both the set batsmen, India was restricted to 329.
England did not have a good start, Their opening pair got out quickly unlike the other two ODIs. The hero of the last match, Ben Stokes, also went cheaply. England lost their captain, Jos Butler, fairly early as well. Then came Sam Curran, he played outstanding innings and took England to a position where victory looked in hand. But Indian bowlers held their nerve and turned the match into their favour from a position where it was looking to go out of hand.
India won by 7 runs to clinch the series decider and win the Paytm Trophy. India has now beaten England in all three formats at home. This has been one of the best series from India's point of view, where in spite of some big names missing they have performed exceptionally.
