With the installation of the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) on board 3 Advance-Light-Helicopters - ALH Mk-III, the Indian Navy is all set to save the lives of critical patients, even in the air.
Be it in the battle against Covid or facing the rough climatic disturbances aid the cyclonic storms like ‘Tauk-Tae’ or ‘Yaas’, advanced medical facilities will be provided in the air-ambulance of the Indian Navy.
Medical Services available on-board
The ALH Mk-III aircraft has installed Medical Intensive Care Unit which provides the following medical facilities: – 2-sets of defibrillators – ventilators – medical oxygen support – multipara monitors – syringe pumps & – a suction system to clear secretions in the mouth or airway of the patient.
This system has a battery backup of four hours and can be worked on an aircraft power supply, while the aircraft can also be converted into an air ambulance within 2-3 hours.

Made in India aircraft
The Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH-DHRUV) Mk- III is devised and developed entirely in India and has a twin-engine with a multi-mission weight class of 5.5 tons. The chopper has a multi-role to play. The aircraft has been manufactured by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), powered by a Shakti engine. The low-frequency dunking sonar (LFDS) placed in the aircraft has been developed by the Kochi-based Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory.
Salient features of the aircraft
The aircraft is meant for tackling low visibility search and rescue operations, which comes with a 0.7 mm gun for LIMO search and rescue operations and a 0.7 mm gun for LIMO (low-intensity maritime operations) viewpoints. The MK III version of the ALH has a glass cockpit that is linked with an automatic flight control system that provides sound stealth power.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), the state acquired aerospace and defence company, will present seven MICU sets to the Indian Navy in a short time.
