There is a village in India that has earned the title of Asia's richest village where farmers earn up to Rs 70 lakh per year. Yes! you heard it right. India which is an agricultural nation often comes under the scanner of farmers' poor income but a village has become a role model for not only India but also the entire Asia. The village is located just 300 kilometers from New Delhi and only 90 kilometers from the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The image of this village is unlike any normal Indian village. Here there are luxurious houses instead of huts, luxury cars are parked in front of the houses instead of bullock carts, and the villagers do not live a simple but high-class lifestyle. The people here are not poor but there are millionaires in almost every house. Now, the question arises what is the name of the village?
Which is India's richest village or which is Asia's richest village?
The answer is Madavag. Madavg village, located 92 km from Shimla at an altitude of 7774 feet, has neither any industrialists nor people holding high positions in famous companies, yet it is among the richest villages in Asia. The reason behind it is the farming of apples or the presence of apple orchards.
As per reports, Madavag has a population of 1800 and it produces about 7 lakh boxes of apples this year. That too, is apples of the best quality in the country. Farmers have planted varieties like Royal Apple, Red Gold, and Gala. There were no apples in the village till the 80s. In 1990, farmer Hira Singh Dogra reportedly brought apple saplings for the first time. When his experiment was successful, the whole village started growing apples. Heera Singh reportedly said that today 12 to 15 lakh boxes of apples are exported from Madavg Panchayat to the whole world every year.
The size of Madavg apples is big as well. Due to heavy snowfall, the quality of apples here is so good that they do not spoil quickly. People take care of apple orchards like children. They stay in the orchards day and night during the cold season. People remove snow from the trees when the temperature dips below zero degrees.
The crop is ready from April to August-September. If hail falls during this time, the entire crop can be destroyed. Nets are put over the orchards to protect the crops from hail.
