Sriharikota (Andhra Pradesh): India on Monday successfully demonstrated its new technology of placing satellites in three different orbits. A new modified version of the India's Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket which carried the electronic intelligence satellite named Emisat for the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO) and 28 third party satellites was lifted off from the second launch pad, on Monday.
After putting Emisat into the orbit, the rocket was to be brought down to put 28 foreign satellites into the orbit at an altitude of 504 km. The space agency had earlier informed that following this, the rocket would be further brought down to 485 km where the fourth stage/engine will be converted into a payload platform which will be carrying three experimental payloads.

After a perfect lift off from the Second Launch Pad at 0927 hrs, the PSLV, in its 47th mission, and a flight duration of 17 minutes, initially injected the primary satellite EMISAT into a 749 km sun-synchronous polar orbit with an inclination of 98.376 deg.
