The Indian cricket team’s tour of South Africa is all set to start from December 6 at Centurion. Test squad led by captain Virat Kohli has been holding practice sessions ahead of the much-awaited first Test.
India will be going into the series as favourites despite the out-of-field noise dominating the headlines in the last couple of weeks. The side enjoyed success in Australia and England, so they will be keen to conquer the Proteas on their land.
India has not won a Test series in South Africa and it is an opportunity to break the jinx. They will surely be high on confidence, having produced a dominating performance at home against New Zealand. The Test victories in Australia and England will also act as boosters.
India will play three Tests and as many ODIs in the tour. While the Test squad is already in South Africa, the limited-overs squad is yet to be announced. At the announcement of the squad, the Board of Control for Cricket in India handed ODI captaincy to Rohit Sharma, sparking a huge controversy.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said they had asked Kohli to continue as captain ahead of his T20I captaincy exit, but Virat later turned it down, saying the BCCI rather welcomed the decision. This led to a lot of debate with people pointing out the crack between BCCI and Virat Kohli.
