DSP Dalbir Singh’s body was recovered on New year’s morning near the Basti Bawa Khel canal in Jalandhar. In a shocking revelation, it was revealed that the he was shot by an auto rickshaw’s driver whose services he had employed after being dropped at the Jalandhar Bus Stand by his friends. The arrested, identified as Vijoy Kumar, drives an Auto Rickshaw which was boarded by the slain DSP a couple of hours before his murder. He was on his way home after celebrating New Year with his acquaintances. It further came to light that the DSP was involved in a scuffle with the driver who reportedly refused to give the DSP a lift to his house. The scuffle escalated so much that, in anger, the accused took the DSP’s own pistol and fatally shot him in the head. He also had a prior incident with DSP the night before due to which he denied the DSP his services.
Further elaborating on this, the Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Swapan Sharma said that DSP Dalbir Singh posted at Laddha Kothi, Sangrur was murdered by an unidentified person on January 1, 2024. His dead body was found at Canal road near the Leather complex in Basti Bawa Khel. He said that ASI Jughal Kishore posted at Leather Complex had spotted the dead body after he was going back home after his duty. The ASI immediately informed the SHO police Division- 2 after which the Police force rushed on the spot and started investigation into the matter.
Subsequently the police started the investigation into the matter to nab the culprit and a thorough probe was conducted from various angles. An FIR was registered under sections 302/379B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, and of the Arms Act, at PS Division 2 Jalandhar against an unknown person. Commissioner Swapan Sharma further said that by conducting the investigation in a scientific, systematic and professional manner, the Police solved the case within 48 hours of the crime by arresting the main perpetrator of the crime.
The arrested has been identified as Vijay Kumar, son of Om Parkash, residing in Village Partap pura, PS Sadar Jalandhar. Vijay Kumar drives an Auto Rickshaw, which was boarded by the slain DSP a couple of hours before his murder. Previously, the accused had an FIR filed against the DSP in which he had reached a compromise with the complainant.
