In a major breakthrough, Punjab Police has arrested Khalistan supporter and 'Waris Punjab de' chief Amritpal Singh on Sunday morning after he was on the run for 36 days. He was hiding at Gurudwara Sant Khalsa, located in Rode village of Moga district. Sources revealed that Amritpal had planned to hide there and continue his activities from the birthplace of Jarnail Singh Bhindrawala, a revered figure among Khalistan supporters.

However, the Punjab Police received intelligence late last night about Amritpal's whereabouts, and senior officers swung into action. On Sunday morning, a police force gathered around Rode village, and plainclothes officers entered the village to arrest him. When Amritpal got wind of the police's plan, he started reciting prayers, but the police arrested him without giving him a chance to surrender.

Amritpal was aware that he had been booked under the National Security Act and would be sent to Assam directly. After being surrounded by police, he decided to surrender in front of people. However, the Intelligence Wing received information that if Amritpal surrendered amidst the crowd, his supporters could create a ruckus, leading to a deteriorating atmosphere. Therefore, the police arrested him as soon as he finished his prayers and delivered his words to the people.

Jasbir Singh Rode, the nephew of Sant Bhindrawala, claimed that Amritpal was about to surrender himself, and it was not an arrest. According to him, Amritpal offered prayers at the gurdwara in the morning, prepared his kit, and wore chola and parna before going to the gurdwara. After addressing the Sangat about the delay in his arrest, he came out and got arrested
