In an exclusive interview with the True Scoop News today, Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh, raised questions on the performance of his own government and said the issues like drug, sand and liquor mafias continues to haunt Punjab, while our focus seems to be more on assembly elections, he said.
“Punjab has a lot of potential, while the mining, liquor and drug mafias are taking a severe toll in its growth and development”, Singh said adding that the government must take steps to curb these mafias in order to achieve the growth we have been aiming for the state.
He said that the recent results of the municipal elections in the state are no indicator of the Assembly elections, and that the government has to work hard to gain the trust of the people of Punjab especially youth who have been running hither and thither for the Jobs, to win the 2022 elections.
He further said that previous local body elections were won by the SAD-BJP alliance and then they lost the Assembly elections, therefore, we cannot take the civic body win for granted. The people of Punjab are ‘Smart’, they will definitely analyse the progress and development in the state before they cast their vote.
Moreover, as the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Sunil Jakhar on February 17, launched the ‘Capt for 2022’ campaign, there seems to be some internal disagreement within the party legislators which has put the state leadership in a spot. Commenting upon the same, Pargat Singh also said that it was an exclusive right of the party high command to decide the CM face and it should be left to them as to who leads the party in the Assembly elections.
Pargat Singh also raised questions over certain promises that the Cpatain Amarinder Singh-led-Congress government had made to people before coming to power in 2017. He said eliminating drugs was one of the prominent promises, rest giving employment, shunning VIP culture and the list is long, but how many such promises have been fulfilled is the main question now as soon the government will complete four years.
Incidentally, both Navjot Sidhu and Pargat Singh skipped a pre-wedding lunch hosted for party MLAs and MPs by the Chief Minister on Thursday in connection with the wedding of his granddaughter. The speculations are being made as the both the leaders are not satisfied with the four-year performance of the government, therefore, they have not been actively participating in the state politics and are restricted to the functioning in their respective constituencies.
