New Delhi: It is expected that the interim budget will have “interesting features” and will possibly include measures to tackle farm crisis as well as tax benefits for the middle class, as it will reach out to key constituencies ahead of this summer general elections.

The nature of tax concessions that may be announced on Friday, is not clear but sources have indicated that some of the sops may be available during the first few months of the 2019-20 fiscal year, with the government promising to extend them if voted back to office.

This time, addressing concerns over farm distress and its impact on the overall economy is seen to be the top priority for the government. Interim finance minister Piyush Goyal is expected to dedicate a major chunk of his maiden Budget speech to the government initiatives and outline the agenda for the future.
