International Yoga Day 2021: India, WHO to launch M-Yoga app globally

Every year International Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21, this day focuses on mental as well as physical well-being. This year world would be celebrating the seventh International Yoga Day.

On June 21, 2021, the world would celebrate the seventh International Yoga Day. This year due to a global pandemic the International Yoga Day would be celebrated virtually. The lead program of the event was held by the Union Minister of AYUSH Kiran Rijiju and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this program, Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation. 

During his address, PM Modi announced the launch of the M-Yoga App, along with the World Health Organisation (WHO). This application would provide easy access to Yogic practice all over the world.

PM Modi said that ‘yoga has become a ray of hope’ at the time when people are fighting against the Covid-19 globally, he also shared the importance of yoga during this difficult of Covid-19, where people are stressed because of staying inside the home, doctors are under immense pressure and stress. 

Prime Minister Modi in a televised address said, “Today when the entire world is fighting against Covid-19 pandemic, Yoga has become a ray of hope. For two years now, no public event has been organized in India or the world, but enthusiasm for yoga has not gone down.”

He added, “When Covid-19 emerged, no country was prepared. At this time yoga became a source of inner strength. Yoga helps in self-discipline, it inculcates faith in people that they could fight the virus. Frontline warriors told me that they made yoga a tool in fighting the virus.”

After the Prime Minister’s address to the nation, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said, "Relevance of Yoga has increased during COVID-19. Yoga has helped us to maintain our physical and mental health. We should make Yoga or other physical activities a part of our daily life. These will help us to increase our immunity against coronavirus.

I assure you, include yoga in your daily routine, it will increase your body's urgency and inner strength, it will also give you more strength in the fight against Covid-19."

THEME of International Yoga Day 2021:

This year, the theme of International Yoga Day is “Yoga for Well-Being”, there is a theme song as well. The song covers the country from length to breadth. This theme song features singers like Kailash Kher, Shaan, KS Chithra and many more international and national artists.

Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps in maintaining physical as well as mental well-being. Over the years, Yoga and its benefits have found popularity in other countries of the world as well. During UN General Assembly in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea of celebrating a day as International Yoga Day. His address was endorsed by 175 UN members.

Post which the United Nations General Assembly recognized June 21 as the International Yoga day.
