International Human Solidarity Day is celebrated on December 20, across the globe. The day is observed to celebrate our unity in diversity and to remind governments to respect their commitments to international agreements. The day also raises public awareness of the importance of solidarity and encourages debate on the ways to promote solidarity for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals including poverty eradication.
It is a day for action to encourage new initiatives for poverty eradication.

The theme for the day does not change every change. The basic purpose behind the day is to “promote the culture of cooperation, equality and social justice.”
International Human Solidarity Day 2021: History
The UN General Assembly was convinced that the promotion of the culture of solidarity and the spirit of sharing is important for combating poverty, therefore proclaimed 20th December as International Human Solidarity Day.
By resolution 60/209 on 22 December 2005, the General Assembly highlighted solidarity as one of the essential and universal principles that should underpin interactions between peoples in the 21st century and agreed to declare 20 December each year as International Human Solidarity Day.
