Annually, International Men’s Day is celebrated to throw light on the positive value men bring to the world, families and communities. This day highlights the positive role models and raises awareness of men’s well-being.
The objectives of celebrating an International Men's Day are set out in “All The Six Pillars of International Men's Day.” It is an occasion to celebrate boys' and men's achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to the nation, union, society, community, family, marriage, and childcare. The broader and ultimate aim of the event is to promote basic humanitarian values, as well as awareness towards men's issues.
Unlike International Women’s Day, International Men’s Day is also not recognized by the United Nations General Assembly. The UN celebrates “World Toilet Day” on November 19, annually.

International Men’s Day 2021: History
The day was inaugurated by Dr Jerome Teelucksingh in the year 1999. The day was selected on November 19, because on this date Jerome’s father was born.
Dr Jerome was a history lecturer at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad Tobago. Teelucksingh has promoted International Men's Day as not just a gendered day but a day where all issues affecting men and boys can be addressed. He has said of IMD and its grassroots activists, “They are striving for gender equality and patiently attempt to remove the negative images and the stigma associated with men in our society.”
