Kolkata Knight Riders sealed the match against Kings XI Punjab by 28 runs and reached the top of the points table in the IPL 2019. Andre Russel won the 'Man of the Match' for his 47 runs blitz and 2 crucial wickets leading his team to victory.
Kings XI lost Rahul early in the chase and even Chris Gayle couldn't bat for long getting out for 20 runs. Mayank Aggarwal played a solid innings of 58 runs off 34 balls and so did David Miller scoring 59 off 40 balls but the target was way more than the par score on the Eden pitch.
"I think I have to make a bigger garage with all these cars and awards (smiles). Well done to the guys for playing good cricket. Gayle is like a brother to me, the bigger legend. To get him out early was great. The plan was to bowl tight to him and restrict him. I am happy that I could get the job done. We discussed and executed our plays for KL Rahul as well. Today I hit some big ones, but he (Gayle) is still the bigger hitter. Thanks to that guy was outside the ring. It's the new guy, I forgot his name, but well done. Thank you. When I got bowled, I was like... Mmmm I missed out tonight. But then when I saw everyone in the dugout signalling no ball then I was like please God let this be a free-hit for front foot, but I realised it was the guy outside the circle and I just capitalized on that. You don't get these things everyday. You have to maximize on these opportunities," said Russel after winning the match.
Andre Russel was the lead bowler as well picking up 2 crucial wickets.
