Dhoni said in a virtual meeting with his teammates that because the IPL is taking place in India, international players and support staff should be given priority in travelling to their homes abroad. The Indian team's players will return home later.
“Mahibhai said he would be the last person to check out of the hotel. He desired that the foreigners quit first, followed by the Indian players. When everyone is safe and secure, he will take the last flight tomorrow,” a member of CSK told The Indian Express.
CSK organised a charter flight from Delhi for its players. In the morning, a ten-seater flight carrying CSK players flew to Rajkot and Mumbai, while in the evening, a charter plane dropped players off in Bangalore and Chennai. Dhoni is expected to return to Ranchi on Thursday evening. Teams such as the Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab organised charter flights for their Indian matches, while the Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Sunrisers Hyderabad relied on commercial flights to get to their destinations.
Many players used taxis to get to their destinations, which ranged from Ahmedabad to Mumbai and Delhi to Punjab. Meanwhile, eight Englishmen were the first to leave, arriving in London, while the Australians awaited a flight to the Maldives as the now-suspended IPL's international recruits charted their way back home with the help of the BCCI on Wednesday.
Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Sam Billings, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, and Jason Roy arrived in London for a 10-day quarantine before returning home. After several COVID-19 cases in its bio-bubble, the league was suspended indefinitely on Tuesday. Eoin Morgan, Dawid Malan, and Chris Jordan, England's captain, are scheduled to fly to London within the next 48 hours.
