Apart from senior spinner Harbhajan Singh and middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav, Australian batsmen Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell have been placed in the base price category of Rs 2 crore for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) auction going to be held in Chennai on 18 February. The IPL Governing Council has cut the number of players, after which 292 players will enter the auction. Eight franchises will bid to fill 61 vacant spots. Three players from 164 Indian, 125 foreign, and associate countries got a place in the auction list.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has Rs 22 crore 70 lakh and has seven places available. Super Kings has released Harbhajan and Jadhav this year. Arjun, the son of legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar and left-arm fast bowler, has got a place in the lowest base price category of Rs 20 lakh.

Apart from Maxwell and Smith, foreign players include Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy, and Mark Wood in the highest base price category. 12 players have got a place in the base price category of Rs 1.5 crore, while Indian batsman Hanuma Vihari and fast bowler Umesh Yadav are in the third category of Rs 1 crore. The auction in Chennai will start at 3 pm Indian time.
