Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction is likely to take place on February 7 and 8 in Bangalore. The much-awaited auction was previously expected to be held in January. However, with one of the two new teams yet to complete their documentation, it has been shifted to February.
The mega auction will see the previous eight franchises and the two new ones trying to build a fresh squad as all teams had to retain a maximum of only four players ahead of IPL 2022. The teams want this to be the last mega auction as they think it disrupts their team balance after spending years in strengthening it.

Nonetheles, the preparations for the upcoming auction are already underway.
“Unless the COVID-19 situation worsens, we will have the IPL mega auction in India. The two-day event will be held on February 7 and 8 and like other years, we plan to hold it in Bengaluru. Preparations are underway,” a senior BCCI official was quoted by PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Almost all IPL teams are currently conducting trials among Indian domestic cricketers to look out for fresh talent. Teams prepare in advance before entering the auction.
The IPL 2021 was played in two segments due to Covid. The BCCI has expressed their desire to hold the upcoming edition in India. However, with a new variant of Covid taking a toll, the board might reconsider its decision.
