The story of Kanpur's IPS brother and IAS sister of Rajasthan is comforting amid reports of the misdeeds of corrupt officers during the Corona period. IPS Anil Kumar, the ADCP of traffic in Kanpur, started a covid hospital in Kanpur as soon as the second wave came. Looking at Anil's experience, Police Commissioner Aseem Arun has also put him in charge of the Corona cell. Anil's sister. Manju is an IAS, currently serving as a District Development Officer in Udaipur, Rajasthan. She is treating COVID patients. Both siblings have studied MBBS before joining the civil services.

Anil said that along with the uniform, now he has the opportunity to do the duty of a doctor

Anil Kumar, an MBBS from Jodhpur’s S.N. Medical College, hails from Alsisar in Jhunjhunu District in Rajasthan. For some time, he practised at Delhi’s reputed Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.

As soon as the second wave of corona hit India, Anil started a 16 bedded L-1 class hospital in Kanpur Police Lines. He sees patients in the OPD every day. As per reports, it is believed that the wife of ADJ was unable to secure a bed anywhere but was admitted to Anil’s hospital. So far 18 patients have been completely cured. In the OPD, more than 385 infected people have been treated. Most of them were policemen and their families.

During his UPSC Civil Services examination interview, the first question he was faced with was why he wants to become an IAS even after being a certified doctor? Anil says that now he has been able to answer this question with the perfect answer. People taunted him that his time and MBBS degree were wasted but he believes that education never goes in vain. “Today I have got an opportunity to perform the duty of a doctor along with the uniform in this odd situation.”, says Anil.

IAS sister Manju saves oxygen for 100 patients daily

Dr Manju, Anil's sister, also passed the civil services exam after completing her MBBS. Currently serving as an IAS officer of the Rajasthan Cadre - District Development, Dr Manju is in charge of the oxygen audit team in Udaipur.

She said that when there was a shortage of oxygen, she did an analysis of the available ventilators and the consumption of oxygen from bed to bed. In this analysis, she found out that large amounts of oxygen were being wasted while the patient was eating or going to the toilet. The situation is now under control. As a result of this, “We are now able to provide oxygen to 100 additional patients every day,” she said.
