Recently, researchers from the Swedish Museum of Natural History, Stockholm conducted a study on the mass extinction and scientists have found some key elements of impending doom for all civilization on the Earth.
Researchers have found some bacteria and algae those bloom at the water bodies and can lead to the mass extinction event. Ecological disorders may take place due to the changes in algal and bacterial activities. According to the researchers, the changes are akin to the changes that occurred during the last mass extinction event, which happened around 251 million years ago, known as the “Great Dying.” At that time, the Earth witnessed a great loss to life.

As per the researchers, these toxic algae and bacteria that are now growing in our lakes and rivers show the characteristics that existed during the Great Dying period.
These changes in the water bodies are the result of human activities including greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation etc.
In the study published in Nature Communications, the scientists have named the correlation between bacterial changes and extinction a “disconcerting signal” for environmental changes in the future, as per the website India Times.
One of the scientists said that we are in the middle of mass extinction and this time all is because of human activities.

Microbes are important to maintain ecological balance in the water bodies but excess of them would convert sources of water into a toxic soup and would kill lives.
As the Earth's temperature increases per year, by 2100, the bacteria and algae would bloom more rapidly, which would be the peak of the mass extinction, and signs have been started appearing.
