While the Russia-Ukraine war kickstarted global turmoil, another war is in the making between the arch-rivals Israel and Palestine. Social media erupted on Saturday after multiple videos surfaced showing Hamas militants infiltrating Israel hours after firing over 5,000 rockets from the strips of Gaza.
For those who are unaware, Israel declared a 'state of war' after a fierce rocket attack from the blockaded Gaza strip, in what the Hamas militants called only their "first strike". As per reports, over 5,000 rockets pierced the sky towards Israel on a festive holiday morning as loud sirens blared across the country. Although the Iron Dome protected common Israeli citizens, the Hamas militants breached the Israeli defense system by intruding on their country not only by land but also by motor glider.
Now, multiple Israel-Hamas videos are doing rounds on social media. In one of the purported videos, users claimed that a Hamas militant used a motorized hang glider to get into Israel. Another video showcases, common Israelis stuck inside their house and filming the terror of Hamas whose militants open fire at common Israelis on the streets.
Not only this, another footage shows, Hamas militants taking selfies with slain Israeli soldiers. The Israeli Defense Forces confirmed Hamas intruding the country on X, formerly known as Twitter saying, "A number of terrorists have infiltrated into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Residents in the area surrounding the Gaza Strip have been asked to stay in their homes."
It is pertinent to mention here that the armed wing of Hamas declared it has begun "Operation Al-Aqsa Flood" and said it has fired over 5,000 rockets in the "first strike of 20 minutes." "We decided to put an end to all the crimes of the occupation (Israel), their time for rampaging without being held accountable is over," the group was quoted saying by the Israeli media.
Notably, the Israeli–Palestinian conflict is one of the world's most enduring conflicts, beginning in the mid-20th century. Various attempts have been made to resolve the conflict as part of the Israeli–Palestinian peace process, alongside other efforts to resolve the broader Arab–Israeli conflict.
