To avert Covid vaccine fear amongst people Punjab IAS officer gets his parents vaccinated, taken jab himself

The officer said that vaccination of our elders is the need of the day to keep the virus under check.

Jalandhar, March 7- Encouraging eligible beneficiaries to come forward for the Covid vaccination, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Vishesh Sarangal got his senior citizen parents 67-years old father J.R. Sarangal, and 63-years old mother Santosh Kumari vaccinated on Sunday. 

The ADC after getting his parents vaccinated said that the vaccine was a protection against the ill-effects of the virus; hence it was the need of the day that every beneficiary received the vaccination. He mentioned that both his parents were healthy adding people need not worry about the vaccination as it was only going to boost their immunity against the infection. 

He further added that under the third phase of the vaccination drive, everyone above the age of 60 years, and people between ages 45-59 with co-morbidity were eligible to take the Covid vaccine. 

Mr Sarangal stated that it was our prime duty to take our parents who fall in the above-mentioned categories for the vaccination. "Let's all of us start a drive to get our elders vaccinated so that their protection from the virus could be ensured at all cost", added Mr Sarangal.  

He informed that in government facilities, the vaccination was free-of-cost whereas all private healthcare institutions are entitled to charge Rs. 250 only for the vaccination.

He said that beneficiaries can register for the vaccination online or through any of the 33 Sewa Kendras in the district. Notably, as many as 28790 beneficiaries have received the vaccine by March 6, 2021, which include 14,572 healthcare workers, 10,674 frontline workers, 476 beneficiaries between ages 45-59 with co-morbidities, and 3068 senior citizens. 

The ADC mentioned that so far no adverse event of the vaccination was reported in the district and all eligible beneficiaries should take the vaccine to win this ongoing war against the CoronaVirus.
