The district administration today launched self-defence and free coaching classes for girls in Jalandhar, inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal. At the Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Nehru Garden, the Deputy Commissioner introduced self-defence classes, stating that 15-day classes are starting here for training girls in self-defence, which will later be expanded across the district to empower girls to face contemporary challenges. In the first batch, 50 students will receive self-defence training.
Dr. Aggarwal emphasized the importance of self-defence and confidence in girls today, which led to the district administration initiating this training. The training will cover techniques essential for self-defence, enabling students to stay safe and respond effectively in any situation. He encouraged the students to aspire to reach great heights, reminding them that women are equal to men in fields like education, sports, administration, police, military, politics, and others, showcasing their strength, competence, and skills. He motivated the girls to train diligently and with dedication.
The Deputy Commissioner also inaugurated free coaching classes at the District Employment and Business Bureau for girls preparing for competitive exams after completing grade 12. In the first batch, 30 girls will receive free coaching over a three-month duration, led by experts.
Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal highlighted the district administration’s ongoing efforts for the welfare and development of girls. He mentioned a previous campaign launched by the administration for testing haemoglobin levels in girls across 30 villages in the Shahkot block to prevent anaemia, which will soon be expanded district-wide.
Referring to the ‘Chetna’ project launched in the district, he explained that training on life-saving skills will be provided in various schools across the district, enabling timely assistance in health emergencies and accidents.
Reaffirming the Punjab Government’s commitment to providing security, better health, education, and other facilities for the overall development of girls, the Deputy Commissioner assured that no stone to be left unturned in ensuring a bright future for the young girls. He also appreciated the support from the District Social Security, Women and Child Development Department.
During the event, the Deputy Commissioner honoured the school’s female achievers in sports with medals. He was warmly welcomed by the school’s student band, and he commended their performance in his address.
