Jalandhar-based Punjabi singer Fatehjit Singh arrested at Delhi Airport; Know why

In a major development, a Punjabi singer hailing from Jalandhar has been arrested at Delhi's Indira Gandhi Airport. The Punjabi singer has been identified as Fatehjit Singh. Delhi Police has arrested Fatehjit in connection with sending people to America through the donkey route. The "donkey route" is a term used to describe the illegal immigration journeys that some people take to reach Western countries, such as the United States, Canada, and Britain. Shah Rukh Khan's movie Dunki was based on a similar concept. 

Fatehjit Singh rose to fame 4 years ago for his song Surma. His latest track Paranda was released a few days ago.

In a statement given to a newswire, IGI DCP Usha Rangnani was quoted saying that during interrogation, the accused said that he had studied till 12th class. The singer has been a part of shows held in many countries. The accused was in contact with an agent named Sultan Singh. Sultan used to cheat people in the name of sending them to America. The DCP said that after coming in contact with Sultan Singh, the accused singer thought of earning more money in less time. Police alleged that both were working together.

The DCP further said that Fatehjit Singh disclosed the matter during interrogation. Singer told that a person named Gurpreet Singh had contacted Sultan Singh. Gurpreet had to go to America. The accused promised to take him to America and asked for Rs 50 lakh in exchange for arranging all the documents.

According to the information, Singer had to send a person to America by donkey route for Rs 50 lakh. Singer's partner Sultan Singh had taken about Rs 10 lakh as advance. Out of which Rs 4 lakh was Singer's commission. The remaining Rs 40 lakh was also promised to be given after reaching America.

The accused informed the police that with the help of Sultan Singh, Singer, and his associates, five attempts were made to send the person to America. Attempts were made to send him to America through different countries but success was not achieved. Many plans were made but all failed.

The accused tried to send the person to America via Kazakhstan. But the officials there came to know about it. From where he was deported to India. Delhi Police is also investigating Fatehjit Singh's bank account. It will also be investigated whether the singer was involved in other such cases or not.
