Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station renovation work is going on full swing, but the dark truth is it has missed its last two deadlines. Due to the delay in the Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station renovation work, several trains passing from the route have already been disrupted in the past. As per reports, the renovation work of the 110-year-old British-era Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station has been going on for the last two years. However, the construction work is far from complete. Hence, the Jalandhar Cantt Opening Date has been delayed further.
Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station Update
As per a Dainik Bhasker report, the deadline for the station has been extended for the third time to May 31. Earlier, it was set for November 2024, then March 2025. It means, if the work gets completed, Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station inauguration may take place after May 31, 2025.
Minister of State (MoS) Ravneet Singh Bittu had visited the Cantt Railway Station in December last year and had said that it would be dedicated to the public in March 2025. Now, Deputy Chief Engineer Abhinav Garg has said that due to fewer train blocks, less time was available for construction.
The report suggests that the work was done by affecting train operations as little as possible. Another officer said that more than a hundred trains pass through here daily in the up and down direction. The role of the railway was also significant in a major event like Kumbh. A large number of special trains were also operated. Due to this, the work was also affected. 14 trains were operated for Kumbh. In 45 days, 14 trains made 21 trips from Jalandhar to Kumbh. This delay also happened because of providing convenience to the public.
Now the work will be completed on the new deadline.
The report further outlines that on Record, 92% of renovation has been, however, not even 80% is visible on the ground. In such a situation, completion of construction by May is difficult. The structure of the main building has been erected. The new station being built for Rs 99 crores. The seating area for passengers has not been prepared yet.
Two more footbridges are to be built. Only one is usable now. The top and platform of the concourse are yet to be built. Two entry gates are to be built from the highway side. They are not complete yet. The old footbridge was demolished last week. A 10-foot deep pit has been dug to build pillars on platform 2. 10 lifts and 9 escalators are to be installed. The structure for these is not fully ready yet.
