Jalandhar DC-led unique initiative a major boost for rural women employment

The District Administration of Jalandhar has started a unique initiative which is being spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner, IAS Jaspreet Singh. This step aims to increase the economic development and social welfare of women living in rural areas of city.

One of the major problems faced by rural women is lack of skills which in turn leads to uncertain income for a lifetime. So, to uproot that fear from the mind of women and in order to empower them, Self Help Groups are being made by the administration to make the rural women of Jalandhar self-sufficient.

TrueScoop while interviewing Deputy Commissioner learnt that administration on September 27, 2022, started a skill development training program in which needy women of rural areas received a one-month-long training of stitching football free of cost. The program started with 25 women participants of Waryana Village which later on extended to 20 more women from Adampur. He informed that list for other villages is also under preparation.

Through this training, the women of Self-Help Group will be stitching footballs for sports industries of Jalandhar which later on will be exported all over India and also across India. The result of this initiative is that each woman will be able to earn monthly income of Rs. 12,000- 15,000 on regular basis.

For the success of this initiative, administration has joined hands with Sports Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association which will first provide training to rural women and then help them sell their manufactured goods to different parts of the country.

Jalandhar is known as the sports hub of India and the industries set up here for manufacturing sports-related group earn a profit of Rs.300 crores yearly and with the help of this initiative, women under the Self-Help groups will also be able to avail benefit of the same.
