District administration has made civil and security arrangements for free and fair Lok Sabha polls 2024 for Jalandhar parliament constituency (SC) , under which nearly 16.42 lakh voters would be able to use their democratic right at 1951 polling booths .
Addressing the media here at DAC, District election officer cum Deputy commissioner Vishesh Sarangal , Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma and SSP Jalandhar Rural Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said that to ensure the level playing field for all political parties and candidates adequate civil and security arrangements has already been made.
He also informed that for Jalandhar constituency, notification would be issued on May 7 as the nomination process would be over till May 14 , followed by scrutiny of nominations on May 15. Applicants would be able to withdraw the nominations till May 17. Voting will take place on June 1 , followed by counting on June 4. The whole election process will be completed till June 6, 2024.
DEO has said that the Jalandhar parliament constituency has 1642857 voters , comprising 854446 male and 788368 female voters . Besides that 39853 voters fell between the age group of 18-19 years , 43 third gender , 10181 PWD , 1795 service and 14288 voters falling in the age group of above 85 years .
He said that 1951 polling booths have been established at 1145 locations across the district where drinking water , wheel chairs for PWD voters , voter facilitation desks etc .
Besides that the district has 100 % EPIC along with the system to facilitate the 85 years above voters to cast the vote from home .
Talking about the expenditure by candidates, DEO said that the limit has been set up Rs. 95 lakh by ECI and to keep a hawk eye on the expenditure , SST, VVTs, flying squads have already been deployed in the field.
He also said that to facilitate the parties / candidates a single window system has been set up at room no 22, Ground floor, DAC where political parties/candidates can apply for various election related permissions including commercial/remote/uncontrolled airports/helipads, public meetings, rallies/processions, use of loudspeakers, use of vehicles, plying of video vans, etc. for electioneering.
He also said that the people would be able to file the MCC violation complaints on 1950 helpline no , besides using C- Vigil app / complaint cell at DAC and assembly segment level as the disposal of election related complaints to be resolved within the given time frame .
To ensure the maximum participation of people in voting , low turnout areas in previous polls have been identified where SVEEP activities to be enhanced . Besides that more than 39 thousand new voters would work as a voter awareness ambassadors .
DEO also informed that more than 15,000 polls personnel to perform the duty during election process . Besides that all bank transactions and production and storage of liquor are also under watch by the election officials.
They also made it clear that the Model code of conduct would be implemented strictly and violation of MCC would invite swift action .
Talking about the security arrangements, CP and SSP said that the constituency would be covered by police personnel along with companies of para military forces .
They also said that deposition of armed licence weapons is underway and will be completed soon .
Besides that special units have been deployed to check and nab the anti social elements along with proclaimed offenders .
They said that nearly 33 inter state nakas set up to check the anti social elements besides setting up 24 command centres for better coordination amongst security forces .
Urging the people to ensure maximum participation in the biggest festival of democracy, DC , CP and SSP said that the district administration would leave no stone unturned for smooth conduct of Lok Sabha polls 2024 with an aim to achieve the 70 % polling target .
