A big revelation has come to light in the case of the body of DSP Dalbir Singh being found near Basti Bawa Khel Canal in Jalandhar, Punjab on Monday morning. The DSP was murdered by miscreants who reportedly try to rob him. A case has been registered by Jalandhar Commissionerate Police under the sections of murder and robbery. Upon investigation, two bullet shells were recovered from the crime scene. Forensics revealed that the shells were fired from DSP’s own gun. At present the FIR has been frozen by the Commissionerate Police.
According to reports, on New Year's night, DSP Dalbir Singh had left his house with his 3 acquaintances. He was then dropped near the bus stand by his friends. What happened after remains unknown. Police have taken some CCTV cameras in their possession near the bus stand.
The officers are reluctant to say anything regarding this case. Sources have revealed that the miscreants had tried to rob the DSP. A scuffle ensued wherein they took the DSP's pistol and opened fire, resulting in the death of the DSP. Police have identified some accused in the case. The last rites of DSP will be performed today in village Khojewal of Kapurthala.
At late evening, about 5 teams investigated the crime scene and two bullet shells were recovered from there. When the empty shells were sent for investigation, it was found that the said shell belonged to the DSP's weapon. The police have registered a case under IPC sections 302 (murder), 379-B (robbery), 34 (there were more than one accused involved in the crime) and section 25-54-59 of the Arms Act.
DCP Harvinder Singh Virk said that DSP Dalbir Singh's phone had broken. Due to which he had inserted his phone's SIM into his gunman's phone. He did not have any phone at the time of the incident. DCP Virk also said that Dalbir Singh was suffering from depression for the last 4 months.
It is also important to note, this incident has no connection with incident involving the DSP openly firing his gun that took place in village Mand a few days ago. Investigation has been done on this and hence no connection was found.
The body was recovered from Balton Park Road. The police is investigating the murder angle in the case. Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma said that many aspects have come to light in the case. On Tuesday, the police searched more than 50 CCTV cameras around the crime scene
