Jalandhar Gas Leak: In a major development in the Jalandhar Gas Leak case that claimed at least 1 life, Deputy Director Gurjant Singh reached for inspection at the Ice Factory with a team of Verka plant that came from Chandigarh on Wednesday afternoon. Before the arrival of Deputy Director Gurjant Singh, the police had closed the road on both sides of the factories by barricading it. The officers who reached the spot said that the work of dissolving ammonia gas from the factory in water would be done today.
For the unversed, a man died in the ammonia gas leaked inside Jalandhar's Ice Factory. Jalandhar Commissionerate Police had registered a case against factory owner Nini Kumar Jain resident of Mohalla number-32, Jalandhar Cantt, along with Municipal Corporation officials, Punjab Factory Department officials, Punjab Industry Department officials, Powercom (Electricity) and Pollution Department officials. Nini Jain had already filed a bail petition in the court due to fear of arrest.
It was said in the FIR that the gas had leaked in Nini Jain's Ice Factory in which Sheetal Singh resident Upkar Nagar Mohalla (Kishanpura) died. The factory owner and the officials of the said department have been named in the case. No one has been arrested in the case so far.
Sheetal Singh died of suffocation due to gas leakage inside the Jain Ice Factory and 3 people including a woman fell unconscious. After the incident, the fire brigade somehow stopped the gas leakage after about 2 hours of effort and the gas was finished at around 11 pm. The incident took place on Saturday at 2 pm. Sheetal had started working in the said factory only 3 months ago.
Jalandhar DC Himanshu Aggarwal had handed over the investigation of the case to SDM-1. The investigation of the case will go on for about 15 days. After which the report will be submitted to the DC. Then the names of the officials will also be included in the case. Ammonia gas is used in air conditioners and refrigerators. This gas is used in small to large refrigerators.
