Jalandhar Rural Police have solved a murder case in Adampur by arresting the accused migrant laborer and recovering the weapon used in the crime. The operation was carried out under the ongoing campaign to maintain law and order in the district.
The accused, identified as Ramrai Champia, son of Damu Champia, residing in Boktauli Kebra, Goilkera, West Singhbum, Jharkhand.
Detailing the incident, the senior superintendent of police, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that on the night of December 15, 2024, a migrant laborer, Anand Guria, aged 60, a resident of Sundargarh, Odisha, was found murdered in a local haveli in Mahdipur village. Acting swiftly, a team led by Inspector Ravinderpal Singh, SHO Adampur, under the supervision of DSP Kulwant Singh, Sub-Division Adampur,reached the spot after receiving information and initiated investigations.
The preliminary inquiry revealed that the victim and the accused, identified as Ramrai Champia, a resident of Boktauli, Jharkhand, had consumed alcohol together earlier that evening. A quarrel broke out between the two over monetary issues, leading the accused to fatally assault the victim with an iron chisel.
A case was promptly registered under FIR No. 163, dated December 16, 2024, Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Adampur. During the investigation, the police arrested Ramrai Champia on December 16, 2024. Based on his disclosure, the murder weapon (iron chisel) and other evidence were recovered.
The accused will be presented before the court today, and police remand will be sought for further investigation to uncover additional details of the case.
