Jalandhar: Punjab Traffic Police takes huge step to curb traffic, declares THESE areas as no auto zone

Punjab Traffic Police on 18th January 2023 declared major areas of Jalandhar City as no-auto zones in order to improve the traffic conditions. This decision will come into effect from 19th January 2023 and if anyone fails to follow the instructions, strict legal action will be initiated against the same.

ADCP of Traffic Police, Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal held a meeting with all the senior officials of police and decides to restrict the movement of auto as well as e-rickshaw from Shri Ram Chowk (PNB Chowk) to Basti Adda Chowk. Reportedly, the Auto Union has also been informed about this by organizing a meeting with them. As per Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal, autos, e-rickshaws are the main problem of traffic jams on inner city roads. After confirming this in the survey conducted by traffic police, this decision has been taken. The police further added that if anyone fails to comply with the orders then strict legal action will be initiated against the guilty.

ADCP of Traffic Police, Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal stated that if everyone properly sticks to the decision of no auto zone then 80% of traffic problems in Jalandhar will be curbed. He further added that traffic police will keep a constant check in various areas and if anyone is found parking vehicles on the wrong side or not following rules then strict action will be taken against them.

ADCP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal said that autos and e-rickshaws will reach Sri Ram Chowk, while passengers who want to go to Bhagwan Valmiki Chowk, Civil Hospital, Sheikh Bazar or somewhere nearby will have to get off near Lovely Sweets. Similarly, the riders coming to Dilkusha Market will have to get down near Friends PVR.

Autos and e-rickshaws will enter from Chik-Chik Chowk to reach Basti Adda Chowk. There will be a special checkpoint of the traffic police around the no auto zone. ADCP Chahal said that autos and e-rickshaws carrying school and patients will only be allowed to enter the no-auto zone.
